ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. temp. Al-Mutawakkil, AH 232-247 / AD 847-861. Fals (Bronze, 22 mm, 2.41 g, 7 h), struck under Governor Musa ibn ʿAbd Allah, Halab (Aleppo), AH 239 = 853/4. ‘lā ilāh-a illā / Allāh waḥdahū / lā sharīka lahū’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him’ in Arabic); mint and date formula in the margin. Rev. ‘Muḥammad / rasūl / Allāh’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); above ‘Mūsā ibn’, bottom ‘ʿAbd Allāh’; illegible marginal legend. Album 286. Extremely rare. Good fine.
