★ A tetradrachm from Selinos ★
SICILY. Selinos. Circa 415-409 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 16.38 g, 5 h). Apollo and Artemis standing right in a quadriga moving slowly to right; Artemis holding the reins and Apollo drawing his bow; below, barley corn. Rev. ΣΕΛΙΝΟΝΤΙΟ[Ν] The river-god Selinos standing front, head to left, holding laurel branch in his left hand and a phiale in his right; to left, garlanded altar; before altar, a rooster standing left; to right, selinon leaf over a bull standing left on a base. HGC 2, 1221. Schwabacher 30. SNG ANS 699. Struck from a worn obverse die and with light scratches and some areas of corrosion, otherwise, about very fine.
