ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 148-90/80 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.83 g, 12 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing tainia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. HΡAKΛEOΥΣ - ΣΩTHΡOΣ / ΘAΣIΩN Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club in his right hand and with lion's skin draped over his left arm. HGC 6, 359 var. (no monogram on reverse). Le Rider, Thasiennes 52. Prokopov -, cf. 1848 ( same reverse die ) . An extremely rare variety without monogram on the reverse. Very light marks, otherwise, about very fine.
