KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 16.67 g, 8 h), Babylon, struck under Stamenes or Archon, circa 324/3. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on high-backed throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, club upwards above M; below throne, monogram. Price 3640. Perfectly centered and with a bold head of Herakles of fine early Hellenistic style. Harshly cleaned and with a graffito on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
