★ An extremely rare variety ★

ISLAMIC, Mongols. Great Khans. temp. Chingiz (Genghis), AH 602-624 / AD 1206-1227. Dinar (Electrum, 21 mm, 2.37 g, 12 h), Astarabad. Shiʿa kalima within a circle, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh / Muḥammad rasūl Allāh / ʿAlī walī Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Ali is the friend of Allah’ in Arabic)’; marginal legend mostly off center, ‘[Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū ʿalā al-]dīn kullih wa law kariha al-mushrikūn’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions, even though the unbelievers may dislike it’ in Arabic). Rev. Within a circle, ‘Astarābād / al-khāqān / al-ʿādil / al-aʿẓam’ (‘Astarabad. Khaqan, the just, the supreme’ in Arabic); illegible mint and date formula in the margin. Album -, cf. 1966 (with ‘al-qāʾān / al-ʿādil / al-aʿẓam’). An extremely rare variety. Areas of weakness and the obverse struck off center and the reverse slightly double struck, otherwise, good fine.
