Description

Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.95 g, 4 h), with P. Sepullius Macer, Rome, second half of February 44. CAESAR•[IMP] Laureate head of Julius Caesar to right; behind, star. Rev. P•SEPVLLIVS MACER Venus standing front, head lowered to left, holding Victory in her right hand and long scepter adorned with star with her left. Babelon (Julia) 46 and (Sepullia) 1. Crawford 480/5b. RBW 1679. Sydenham 1071. Well centered and struck, with attractive dark toning. Somewhat porous, otherwise, good very fine.

From the James Knox Collection of Biblical related coins, privately acquired from Calgary Coin Gallery on 25 June 2015 and previously privately acquired from Classical Numismatic Group (with original dealer's ticket).
