PHOENICIA. Tyre. Caracalla, 198-217. Tetradrachm (Billon, 26 mm, 12.65 g, 12 h), 209-212. ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ••ΑΝΤⲰΝΙΝΟC CЄ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to right, seen from behind. Rev. •ΔΗΜΑΡΧ ЄΞ ΥΠΑ[ΤΟC TO Γ] Eagle with spread wings standing facing on club, head to left and holding wreath in beak; between the eagle's legs, murex shell. Bellinger 297. Prieur 1536. A lovely example with a magnificent portrait. The reverse a bit weak, otherwise, extremely fine.
