Description

Tiberius, 14-37. Dupondius (Orichalcum, 28 mm, 11.10 g), uncertain mint in Commagene (?), circa 19-20. [TI•CAESAR•DIVI•AVGVSTI•F•AVGVSTVS] Laureate head of Tiberius to right; to left, countermark: FVLM in rectangular punch; below, two countermark: bust of winged figure to left in round punch and cornucopiae in oblong punch. Rev. [PONT•MAXIM•COS•III•IMP•VII•TR•POT•XXII] [Winged caduceus between two crossed cornucopiae]. BMC 175. RIC 90. RPC I 3869. For countermarks, see Howgego 401 (cornucopiae) & 736 (FVLM). Host coin fine, countermarks very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

The FVLM countermark was applied by the Legio XII Fulminata, based at Melitene near Caesaraea.
