Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 14.39 g, 9 h), Amphipolis, struck under Kassander, circa 316-311. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ Young jockey, holding palm frond in his right hand and reins in his left, riding horse to right; below horse, aphlaston; below raised foreleg, pellet-in-Π. Le Rider pl. 46, 18. SNG ANS 740. The obverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, extremely fine.
