L. Plautius Plancus, 47 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 19 mm, 2.50 g, 12 h), a contemporary plated imitation of an issue from Rome. [L•PLAVTIVS] Facing head of Medusa with coiled serpent on either side. Rev. PLANCVS (blundered) Victory (or winged Aurora) flying right, head to left, holding reins and conducting four rearing horses of the sun. Cf. Babelon (Plautia) 15, Crawford 453/1a, RBW 1583 and Sydenham 959 (for prototype). Banker's marks and minor breaks in plating, otherwise, very fine.
