Description

KINGS OF PONTOS. Mithradates VI Eupator, circa 120-63 BC. Stater (Gold, 20 mm, 8.25 g, 12 h), First Mithradatic War issue, in the name and types of Lysimachos of Thrace. Kallatis, circa 88-86. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield; behind, transverse spear; in inner left field, CⲰ; on throne, KAΛ; in exergue, ornate trident left. AMNG I 260. Callataÿ p. 140, D6/R2. Minor deposits and struck from the usual worn obverse die and with some doubling on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
