Diocletian, 284-305. Aureus (Gold, 19 mm, 5.31 g, 11 h), Alexandria, 294-295. DIOCLET-IANVS AVG Laureate head of Diocletian to right. Rev. IOVI CONSER AVSS / ALE Jupiter standing front, head to left, holding thunderbolt in his right hand and long scepter in his left; at his feet to left, eagle standing left, head turned back to right and holding wreath in his beak. Calicó 4454. Cohen 177 var. (star in right field on reverse). Depeyrot 2/1 (one example recorded). RIC -, cf. 4 (star in right field on reverse). An extremely rare variety. Some scrapes and light scratches, otherwise, about extremely fine.
