Description

Alexius I Comnenus, with Irene and John II. Tetarteron (Lead, 21 mm, 5.63 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis, 1092-93. IC XC - IⲰ ΔЄCΠOT Half-length figures of Christ, on the left, and John II, on the right, wearing loros, both holding labarum between them. Rev. AΛЄΞ[IⲰ] - ЄIPHNH Half-length figures of Alexius I and Irene, both holding a long cross. DOC 32. SB -. Rare and unusually well struck. Some marks and scratches and with a scrape on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
