Description

IRAN, Qajars. Agha Muhammad Khan, AH 1193-1212 / AD 1779-1797. 1/4 Toman (Gold, 15 mm, 2.84 g), type C, Rasht, AH 1204 = 1789/90. Traces of the couplet ‘shod āftāb-o māh zar-o sim dar jahān, az sekke-ye emām-e be haq sāhebozzamān’ (‘The sun and moon became gold and silver in the world / From the coin of the rightful Imam, the Age’s Lord’ in Persian). Rev. In an ornate cartouche, ‘yā Muḥammad. zarb-e dār al-marz Rasht, 1204’ (‘O Muhammad! Struck in the Abode of the Frontier Rasht, 1204’ in Persian). Album 2835. Struck slightly off center and with some areas of weakness, otherwise, good very fine.
