KINGS OF ARMENIA MINOR. Mithradates (?), circa 180s-170s BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 13 mm, 1.70 g, 10 h). Draped bust of Mithradates (?) to left, bearded and wearing upright bashlyk tied with a diadem; around, uncertain Aramaic legend. Rev. Draped female bust to right. Kovacs -. Leu 7 (2020), 1349 (for similar overstrike). Very rare and of great interest. Traces of overstriking, otherwise, very fine.
From a European collection, formed before 2005.
What makes this coin particularly interesting is that it is an overstrike of the crude 'king & queen' type (Leu 5, 178) over Kovacs 27 (see below, lot 1353), thus confirming the sequence of issues.
