★ An extremely rare quarter stater from the Atrebates ★
CELTIC, Northeast Gaul. Atrebates. 3rd to early 2nd century BC. Quarter Stater (Gold, 12 mm, 2.05 g, 7 h), 'au croissant' type. Male head with curley hair and rounded forehead to right; on cheek, grain ear-shaped ornament. Rev. Devolved charioteer, holding long serrated whip, driving biga to right; above, large crescent-shaped ornament; below, numerous irregularly shaped ornaments. DT 40 corr. (reverse misdescribed as 'cheval'). LT 8590 var. (no ornament on cheek and the reverse with a horse only). SLM -. An extremely rare and very unusual coin. About extremely fine.
