SICILY. Leontini. Circa 440-430 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 4.08 g, 9 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΛEON Head of a roaring lion with open jaws to left; around, four barley grains. Boehringer, Leontinoi, 48 ( same reverse die ). McClean -. SNG ANS -. SNG Lockett 805 ( same dies ). Very rare. An attractive and beautifully toned example. Minor flatness on Apollo's forehead, otherwise, good very fine.
