LYDIA. Sardes. Circa 166-67 BC. Cistophorus (Silver, 26 mm, 12.67 g, 1 h), circa 160-150. Cista mystica from which snake coils; all within Dionysiac wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. Two snakes coiled around a bow case; to left, monogram of ΣAP; to right, filleted palm frond. Kleiner & Noe Series 6, 9c (symbol described as 'sword in sheath'). Sharp and and with a particularly elaborate Dionysiac wreath. Extremely fine.
