L. Pomponius Cn.f, 118 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 19 mm, 2.61 g, 9 h), a contemporary plated imitation, imitating Narbo. L•POMPONI C NF Head of Roma to right, wearing winged helmet. Rev. L•LIC•CN DOM Nude warrior driving biga to right, hurling spear with his right hand and holding carnyx, reins and shield in his left. Cf. Babelon (Pomponia) 7, (Licinia) 14 and (Domitia) 18, Crawford 282/4, RBW 1109 and Sydenham 522a (for prototype). Beautiful old collection toning. Struck slightly off center and with very minor breaks in plating, otherwise, about extremely fine.
