Thailand, The Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand, Second period 1873-1941, Knight Commander’s (Second Class), set of insignia, unmarked comprising neck badge, in gilt and enamels, 47.5mm, and breast star, in silver, gilt and enamels, 71mm, in case of issue for third period Grand Cross set, extremely fine. Attributed to the Danish born Thai Admiral Andreas du Plessis de Richelieu (1852-1930), who commanded the Thai forces at Phra Chulachomklao Fortress during the Paknam incident, 16 July 1893 in the Franco-Siamese war. He was C. in C. Royal Thai Navy 16 Jan. 1900-29 Jan 1901, the only non-Thai citizen to hold the office. The Most Excellent Order of the Crown of Thailand was founded by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1869 and comprised three classes. In 1873 it was reorganised into five classes, with the Gold and Silver medals added in 1902 and the Grand Cordon in 1918. The Order was again reorganised in 1941 as an eight class order. It is widely awarded to both Thai and foreign recipients. Purchased Guldstuen, Copenhagen (Tim Eriksen) 1978.
