*Distinguished Service Medal, G.V.R. (J.25895 E. T. Fifield, Sig. “Sligo” Area. III 1919.), suspension slightly loose, good very fine. D.S.M.: London Gazette: 17 October 1919 – ‘for services in the Mine Clearance Force between 1 January and 30th June 1919.’ Signalman Edward Thomas Fifield was born on 16 January 1897 at Peckham London, and had worked as a Builder’s Labourer prior to joining the Royal Navy on 20 June 1913. Progressing through the naval ranks from Boy 2nd Class to Signalman in December 1915, he served throughout the Great War and served aboard the minesweeper H.M.S. Pekin between 18 May 1918 and 30 November 1919, for which service he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal ‘for services in the Mine Clearance Force’.
