Germany, attributed to Christoph Lencker (1566-1613), Ecce Homo, bronze plaquette, half-length figure of Christ flanked by a helmeted soldier and a bearded man wearing a turban who gestures with his left hand; incised across the background, ECCE HOMO, 127 x 105mm (cf. Weber p. 33), very fine contemporary cast with fine detailing Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris [inventory number 186 in red on reverse]; ex Piasa, Paris, 8 June 2012, lot 139. The bearded figure on the right has been variously identified as Herod, Pilate or as a Jewish high priest. Christoph Lencker was an important goldsmith working in Nuremberg and Augsburg at the turn of the seventeenth century.
