Mexico, probable Far-Eastern contemporary imitation of Carlos III, 8 escudos, dated 1770 FM, draped bust, blundered legend, 26.36g (cf. OM 1529, ‘Indian imitation’), pierced, good very fine and unusual, very rare Ex Huntington Collection of Spanish Colonial Coins, Morton and Eden, 6 March 2013, lot 278 (HSA 1001.1.10087). Current research suggests that these imitations were made in the far-east for trade purposes.
