Description

Charles I, Tower mint, sixpence, 1626, Group B, type 1a1, m.m. cross calvary, obv., second bust left, rev., square-topped shield over long cross fourchée, 2.72g (Brooker 577-8; N. 2236; S. 2807), small flan crack, end of obverse legend and mintmark weakly struck with corresponding weakness on reverse, sometime cleaned, generally very fine and with a strong portrait Provenance: A.H. Baldwin & Sons, 1971; also with Henry Webb's ticket noting 'L [Lincoln?] 6/70' on reverse. Possibly from the sale of part 1 of his collection (Sotheby, 9-14 July 1894, lot 436 (part); cf. note to the preceding lot).
