Description

Charles I, Oxford mint, sixpence, 1643, struck from an Aberystwyth obverse die, m.m. book (on obverse only), obv., crowned bust left, plume before and mark of value behind, rev., Declaration in three lines, three Shrewsbury plumes above, date below, 3.32g (Morr. A-2, this die combination not recorded by Morrieson or Davidson (see BNS Research Blog, February 2024); cf. Brooker 951-2 (obverse), 953-5 (reverse); cf. N. 2459; cf. S. 2981), struck from a worn obverse die on an irregularly-shaped flan, about very fine, an extremely rare and apparently unrecorded die combination Provenance: Seaby’s Coin and Medal Bulletin, February 1973 (6452).
