Description

Charles I, York mint, sixpence, undated, apparently an old cast copy in base gold, type 2, m.m. lion 4, obv., crowned bust left, rev., crowned oval garnished arms with C R at sides, similar to the last but with 'bezants' in legend, 2.93g (cf. RCB 3; cf. Besly 1D and note 'York gold', p. 233; cf. Brooker 1100; cf. N. 2322; cf. S. 2876), xedge with light traces of touch-testing, good very fine, offered as seen According to a recent XRF test this curious piece contains 60% silver and 33% gold, with 7% copper and trace elements.Provenance: Spink & Son, 1971.
