Austria, Matthias (1557-1619) as Archduke of Austria, lead medal, by Antonio Abondio, young bust right wearing ruff and mantle; signed AN AB, rev., AMAT VICTORIA CVRAM, rock surmounted by winged wreath, 43mm (Habich 3417, pl. 320, 9), contemporary cast, very fine, rare Ex Luc Smolderen collection. Habich dated this medal to c. 1575 but a date of 1578 is written in black ink on the reverse; he recorded examples in Munich and Vienna.
