Henry VII, Profile Issue, testoon, m.m. lis, first type, crowned bust right, henricvs di’ gra’ rex anglie z fr’, rev., posvi /dev’a / divto’ / e/mev’, rev., square-topped shield over long cross fourchée with lis in ornate cross-ends, 28.5-29mm, 8.97g (N. 1740; S. 2251; Potter & Winstanley dies O1/R1; B.N.S. Research Blog, 2 December 2020, dies O1/R1), evenly struck on a compact, thick round flan, with old surface scratches or spademarks (notably in obverse field before the King’s bust), otherwise better than very fine and with a strong portrait, extremely rare Provenance: R.C. Lockett Collection, 11 October 1956, lot 1717. The Lockett catalogue records that the testoon was ‘found in a garden at Goring’ but gives no date for the discovery.
