The Roman Empire
Regalianus, 260 – 261
Regalian, usurpator in Pannonia had coins issued for himself and his wife Dryantilla which are usually overstruck on previous denarii, often from the Severan period, and of very poor craftsmanship. He clearly had no professional mint within his reach. AMP. Antoninianus, Carnuntum circa 260-261, AR 2.67 g. IMP C P C REGAL[IANVS A]VG Radiate head r. Rev. ORIENS AVG Sol standing facing, raising r. hand and holding whip. C 4. RIC 7. MIR 1713f.
Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Usual traces of overstriking,
otherwise about extremely fine An exceptionally clear and impressive example of a portrait coin of the usurpator Regalian. AMP.
