Marcus Antonius Cistophoric Tetradrachm circa Ephesus (?) 39, AR 25.5mm., 11.60g. M·ANTONIVS·IMP·COS· DESIG·ITER ET TERT Ivy-wreathed head r.; below, lituus. All within ivy-wreath. Rev. III·VIR – [R]·P.C· Head of Octavia r. on cista mistica between two interlaced snakes with heads erect. Babelon Antonia 60. C 2. Sear Imperators 262. RPC 2201.

Good very fine/very fine.

This issue commemorates the marriage of Antony and Octavia and celebrates the Triumvir's divine status as the "New Dionysus" an honour which had been bestowed on him at the time of his first arrival in Ephesus in 41 BC.
