CARIA OR LYCIA. Uncertain. Circa 5th century BC. Tetartemorion (Silver, 6 mm, 0.16 g, 10 h). Forepart of boar to right. Rev. Lion standing to left; above to right, wreath-like symbol; all within a dotted frame in a shallow incuse square. Unpublished in the standard references, but from the same dies as CNG e-auction 344, 2015, 129. Extremely rare and the best known example. Good very fine.
The symbol - it is very unlikely to be a letter - above the lion is also found on a few other coins from Caria or Lycia, thus indicating the geographic origin of this extremely rare coin.
