Phokaia. Circa 521-478 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 10 mm, 2.61 g), c. 500-490. Head of Athena wearing wearing Corinthian helmet to left; behind her neck, seal swimming upwards. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. BMFA 1906. Bodenstedt 32 (e/-). SNG von Aulock -. With a splendid late Archaic head of Athena, very reminiscent of the korai of the period. Minor marks and struck on a slightly tight flan, otherwise, extremely fine.
