LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 440/35-400 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 7.49 g, 5 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with olive wreath; behind neck, owl standing to left. Rev. ΥEΛ-HT-Ω[N] Lion attacking stag to right. Gulbenkian 105 ( same dies ). HN III 1270. SNG ANS 1255 ( same dies ). Williams 162 (O107/R124). The obverse struck from a particularly well-engraved obverse die of very fine Classical style. Lightly toned. Griffito and minor roughness on reverse, otherwise, very fine.
