Description

SICILY. Syracuse. 485-466 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 8.07 g, 6 h). Nude and bearded horseman riding to right, leading a spare horse to his left. Rev. ΣV-RΑQ-ΟΣΙ-ΟΝ Head of Arethusa to right, wearing necklace and pearl diadem, her hair falling down behind; around, four dolphins swimming clockwise. AMB 429 ( same dies ). Boehringer Series IV, 51 (V28/R34). Jameson 745 ( same dies ). SNG ANS 11 ( same dies ). Fine archaic style. Some porosity, otherwise, very fine.
