AXUM. Ebana, circa 460-480. (Silver, 13 mm, 0.33 g). EBΛNΛ crowned and draped bust to right; within several circular borders. Rev. BCΛCIΛEY cross-crosslet with central lozenge. AC 74. H 35. From a private research collection of Axumite small change.
EBANA is most clearly visible on coins of this type (unfortunately not on this specimen) and helped to conclusively identify the name of this king, who previously was sometimes also referred to as Anaeb or Anas in scientific literature (see Hahn & Keck p. 100-101).
