John III Ducas (Vatatzes), emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. Trachy (Bronze, 24 mm, 2.89 g, 6 h), Magnesia. IC - XC Bust of Christ, nimbate, facing, holding Gospels in right hand. Rev. John standing facing, holding labarum-headed scepter in right hand and akakia in left; to upper right, manus Dei. DOC 53. SB 2107. Light earthen highlights. Scratch on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
