Description
John III Ducas (Vatatzes), emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. Tetarteron (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.36 g, 6 h), Magnesia. (MHP) - ΘV Three-quarter length figure of the Virgin facing, nimbate and orans ; in left and right fields, star. Rev. John standing facing, holding labarum-tipped scepter in right hand and patriarchal cross on globe with left. DOC 61. SB 2119. Green patina with light earthen highlights. Very fine.
