Description

L. Scribonius Libo, 62 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 4.04 g, 6 h), Rome. BON EVENT / LIBO Diademed head of Bonus Eventus to right. Rev. PVTEAL / SCRIBON Well-head, garlanded and with a lyre on each sides; at base, hammer. Babelon (Scribonia) 8. BMCRR 3377. Crawford 416/1a. RBW 1500. Sydenham 928. Very fine.

The Puteal Scribonianum was located in the Forum Romanum in Ancient Rome. Puteals were round or square well-heads covering the opening of a well. The particular puteal represented on this coin was dedicated or renovated by a member of the Libo family.
