PAMPHYLIA. Aspendos. Circa 465-430 BC. Obol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.05 g, 6 h). Gorgoneion with extended tongue. Rev. ΕΣΤ Head of Athena, with a profile eye, to left, wearing an Attic helmet ornamented with an olive wreath; all within an incuse square. Traité II, 2, 1549 and pl. CXLIII, 8. A rare early variety with a particularly fierce-looking gorgoneion and an oddly brainless-looking Athena! About extremely fine.
