THESSALY. Kierion. Circa 400-344 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 8 mm, 0.38 g, 9 h). Laureate and bearded head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΚΙΕ Head of a nymph (Arne) to right. BCD, Triton, 98. Traité IV, 514 var. (Zeus’ head to left). Extremely rare. The heads of Zeus and the nymph Arne are of particularly fine late Classical style. Slightly rough surfaces with a great deal of uncleaned horn silver on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
From the "Collection sans Pareille" of Ancient Greek Fractions, ex Nomos 6, 8 May 2012, 59.
This coin is of great rarity, with the finer BCD example being the only better piece known. Very careful cleaning could certainly improve this coin.
