Description

SICILY. Mercenaries. Uncertain, 344-336 BC. AE (Bronze, 13 mm, 2.49 g, 3 h). Free horse springing to right within a linear circle. Rev. Vine leaf within a linear circle; all in a shallow circular incuse. Buceti 2. Calciati III, p. 320, 1. Very rare. Smooth brown patina. Very fine.

There were quite a number of anonymous coinages struck in later 4th century Sicily. Then, everyone would have known for whom they were struck. Unfortunately, like so many things that people then knew, we do not know because we are living now. Where are time machines when you need them?
