CΙΔΗΤΩΝ ΝΕ/ΩΚΟ/ΡΩΝ within a laurel wreath. Burrell p. 188. RPC X Online, 62649 = SNG Paris 901 = Waddington 3498 ( same dies ). Watson 1994. Perfectly centered, with a beautiful patina and an exquisite pedigree. Minor roughness, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
From the collection of Major Anthony F. Milavic, USMC (Ret.), acquired from Edward J. Waddell in August 1991.
The abbreviation ΕΓΝΑ in the obverse legend stands for Egnatius, the nomen of Gallienus's mother, Mariniana (the ΛΙ = Licinius, his father Valerian's nomen). Side received its first neokorate under Valerian I and Gallienus c. 255. It is recorded on coins as having a third under Aurelian; epigraphic evidence proves that at some time after 275 and prior to the early 4th century Side had a sixth neokorate.
