GALATIA. Koinon of Galatia. Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. (Bronze, 16.5 mm, 4.26 g, 12 h), T. Helvius Basila, c. 14-15 or 35-37 (?). ϹΕΒΑϹTOϹ KAIϹAΡ Bare head of Augustus or Tiberius to right. Rev. ΕΠΙ ΒΑ[ ΠΡΕ]ϹΒΕΥΤΟΥ Kybele, wearing polos, enthroned between two lions, holding patera in her right hand and leaning her left elbow on a tympanum. RPC I 3547. Devreker 191, no. 8. Very rare and arguably one of the finest known examples. Of the highest rarity, possibly only the sixth known example. Lovely black patina. Good very fine.
