Description

SICILY. Selinos. Circa 540-515 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 8.00 g). Selinon leaf. Rev. Incuse square with twelve triangular compartments. Arnold-Biucchi Group I, 2. HGC 2, 1211. Selinus Hoard 33. SNG ANS 677-678. Sharply struck and attractively toned. Minor flan crack and minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the Collection of Prof. James M. Collier, received as a Christmas gift from his wife, December 2013, acquired from Mieke Zilverberg at PAN 2013 in November of that year.

This lot is sold to benefit the Collier Prize in Ancient Numismatics offered by the American Numismatic Society.
