Description

C. Valerius Flaccus, 82 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17.5 mm, 3.99 g, 6 h), Massalia. Draped and winged bust of Victory to right, wearing earring and necklace; her hair braided and drawn back into a knot; in the field to right, crescent with points upwards. Rev. C᛫VAL᛫FLA - IMPERAT / EX᛫ - S᛫ C Aquila between two signa, one inscribed H ( Hastati ), the other P ( Principes ). Babelon (Valeria) 12. BMC p. 389, 2. Crawford 365/1c. Sydenham 747. Attractively toned and nicely centered. Minor mark on the obverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
