LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 535-465 BC. Drachm (Silver, 14 mm, 3.85 g). Forepart of lion to right, devouring prey. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Babelon, RN 1912, Trouvaille de Tarente, pl. 5 , 12 ( this coin ). HGC 1, 1327. HN III 1259. MAST 6.16 ( this coin ). SNG ANS 1202 and 1203 ( same dies ). Williams 15d ( this coin ). Very sharply struck, beautifully centered and attractively toned. good extremely fine.

From a European collection, and from the duplicates of the American Numismatic Society, Leu Numismatics 77, 11 May 2000, 56, ex Hess-Leu 36, 17 April 1968, 35 and from the Taranto Hoard of 1911 (IGCH 1874).
