Description

AN EGYPTIAN FAIENCE FIGURE OF BES Late Period, 26th-30th Dynasty, 664-342 BC. A double-sided, two-coloured faience amulet of the dwarf-god Bes. The ancient Egyptian deity Bes was worshipped as a protector of households, mothers, children, and childbirth. He later came to be regarded as the defender of everything good. Pale blue and yellow faience. Headdress missing and broken below the belly. H 37 mm
