A FINE BYZANTINE BRONZE OIL LAMP WITH A GRIFFIN-HEAD HANDLE
Circa 5th-7th century AD.
With an elongated body, tapering neck, and round nozzle. The arched handle terminates in a stylised head of a griffin; a bronze cross between the beak of the griffin and the hinge for the lid. The round base is pierced for attachment to a candelabrum. Lid missing.
