Great Britain Waterloo Medal ND (1972). By B. Pistrucci; Twentieth Century Reproduction by J. Pinches. A reduced-size version of the original medal produced to honor the leaders of the countries involved in the defeat of Napoleon on the 175th Anniversary of their victory. The incredible detail of the massive 133mm original - which was never actually struck is reproduced in a more manageable format. The obverse features laureate draped busts of Britain's Prince Regent (later King George IV); Austria's Emperor Franz I; Russia's Emperor Alexander I; and Prussia's King Friedrich Wilhelm III surrounded by a border of mythological figures symbolizing the return of peace. On the reverse 19 battling mermen symbolizing 19 years of war; encircling Victory with the Duke of Wellington and Prussian Field Marshal Blücher riding in Roman armor. Neither side of this ornate design bears any legend or inscription the sculptor having intended the legend WATERLOO. JUNE 18 1815 to appear on the edge. Also; the serial # 950 and makers mark are on the edge at 12. Silver. cf.Eimer-2166. Weight approx: 122.30 g. Diameter: 63 mm. With Box
