UMAYYAD; Hisham (b. ‘Abd al-Malik), (105-125 AH / 724-743 AD). AR Dirhem (2.94 gm; 27 mm). Dimashq (Damascus), year 124 AH. Obverse; standard Umayyad Shadah at the center with marginal stating mint and year, mint; Dimashq (Damascus), year 124 AH, reverse; from 112th Surah of the Quran with marginal legend (Quran IX,33). Damascus and Wasit were considered the main minting centers of the empire. Album 137, Tabatabai 87, Year 124 was a very important year which spelled the beginning of the end of the Umayyads as “Abu Muslim”, the Persian commander and leader of Abbasids, captured the great city of Nishapur in Khorasan as part of the revolution against the Umayyads. Sharply struck on a nice broad flan. Choice UNC. Fully Lustrous.
